While the nation solemnly rejoices in the return of Ram lalla to his janmasthan, the long struggle and the many sacrifices of the BJP and the RSS karyakartas over the decades must not be forgotten.

August 5th 2020 remains a historic day in the annals of India’s history. On this day, millions of eager Indians witnessed the Bhoomi Pujan of the long-awaited Ram Temple in Ayodhya performed by none other than the Prime Minister of the nation, Shri Narendra Modi. Despite the Covid-19 fears, Hon’ble PM fulfilled the long-cherished desire of Hindus not only in India but throughout the world. The end of the patient wait was even sweeter as the day had come after a long drawn legal process. The judgement was read to the satisfaction of both the claimant parties. As expected there were minor dissenting voices but those are not unexpected in a vibrant democracy like ours.

The settlement of the Ayodhya Temple issue peacefully, by and large, must go to the credit of the ruling party. The Ayodhya Ram Temple is also the result of the immense sacrifice of the many Kar Sevaks from the RSS & the VHP cadres who gave their lives to this cause. The RSS had continued an extensive campaign for the Ram Temple construction while being subject to much vilification and calumny from all sides. Yet they patiently bore the brunt and struggled valiantly for years, on the ground and in the courts, standing shoulder to shoulder with Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas-sants to liberate the birthplace of Lord Ram in Ayodhya.

Pushed to the wall now the Congress admits that Lord Ram is the foremost cultural icon of this country.

In the whole process, the opposition parties, mainly the Congress, constantly tried to insert spokes in the wheel of the temple construction efforts. In UPA I & II, Congress was quite muted on the subject. Today it has nothing to gloat over. The opening of the temple-doors for entry by Rajiv Gandhi for Shilanyas in the late 80s was only an eye-wash, for it was never accepted by the party or the cadre as a step to resolve the dispute. Never ever did Congress as a party enunciate publicly that they had done so with the intention of respecting Hindu sentiments which in their secular psyche has been entirely irrelevant.

Pushed to the wall now the Congress admits that Lord Ram is the foremost cultural icon of this country. We must not forget today how the BJP for decades had to bear humiliations and condemnations for supporting the cause of the Ram Temple. It almost became a political pariah, left with no allies in the political arena. Opposition parties ranted that the BJP was communal, revivalist, revanchist, bigoted, and could not be touched even with a bargepole. In many states, for this reason, BJP found no alliances in the states-assembly elections.

We must not forget today how the BJP for decades had to bear humiliations and condemnations for supporting the cause of the Ram Temple. It almost became a political pariah, left with no allies in the political arena.

It was only during the Ram Rath Yatra movement of 1990 led by BJP leader L K Advani (in which the current Prime Minister was an enthusiastic participant) that the aspirations of millions of Hindus found a dominant voice in the public discourse. However, after the demolition of the Babri structure on 6th December 1992, the party’s woes were writ large. The RSS was imminently banned (by the Congress Government) on Dec 10. The Kalyan Singh-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh was dismissed and losing the largest state was a heavy blow to the party. The dismissal of the UP Govt was however expected after the catastrophic demolition of the Babri-structure. But without any rhyme or reason, on December 15, the Congress government also dismissed the three BJP- ruled state governments of Himachal, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh under Art-356. When asked regarding the necessity of this move the then prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao had answered that the dismissal was motivated by the apprehension that the state governments would not implement a ban decreed by the centre on the RSS.  It could be conclusively stated that the BJP and RSS paid heavily for standing up for the Hindu cause.

Earlier in 1990, Mulayam Singh Yadav had even ordered the police of the state to openly shoot Kar Sevaks in the Temple premises. In the aftermath of Babri-demolition, the Left and other regional political party satraps blamed the PV Narasimha Rao-led Congress government for not doing enough. PV Narasimha Rao cleverly maintained that the Centre had been bound by the Constitution and that the Constitution did not allow the Centre to move against a state government merely on apprehensions.

Earlier in 1990, Mulayam Singh Yadav had even ordered the police of the state to openly shoot Kar Sevaks in the Temple premises.

This was the time when India’s pseudo-secularism was in full swing. Shrill sloganeering from ivory towers continued unchecked. Some even predicted a second partition. Those voices came mainly from the Communists, the Congress and the English Press. Consequently, many BJP leaders were arrested and sent to jail without justification to satisfy the bloodthirsty and elitist media, which made no attempt at understanding the cultural aims of the movement.

The idea that Shri Ram is more than a God, that he is the embodiment of Dharma, and the cultural-fountainhead of the nation, an idea which is so commonplace now, gathered strength in the national discourse in those years.

Yet the BJP and the RSS remained steadfast to this national aspiration. The idea that Shri Ram is more than a God, that he is the embodiment of Dharma, and the cultural-fountainhead of the nation, an idea which is so commonplace now, gathered strength in the national discourse in those years.

To the credit of the consistent efforts of the RSS and its affiliates, and the BJP, the Ram Janmabhoomi movement had become a grassroots one, a stupendous feat for an age still devoid of the internet or social media.

To the credit of the consistent efforts of the RSS and its affiliates, and the BJP, the Ram Janmabhoomi movement had become a grassroots one, a stupendous feat for an age still devoid of the internet or social media. The chant of Jai Shri Ram once again reverberated in the nooks and corners of the country in support of the Ayodhya-Temple.

Many journalists derided the BJP saying that to the party, the mandir-masjid controversy remained more important than development and progress; a clear sign of the media’s disconnect from the emotional cultural aspirations of the masses.

And yet the struggle was long and hard. The court settlements were taking a substantial time and consecutive BJP governments lacked the numbers in the Parliament. Many journalists derided the BJP saying that to the party, the mandir-masjid controversy remained more important than development and progress; a clear sign of the media’s disconnect from the emotional cultural aspirations of the masses.

Today, the Prime Minister’s Bhoomi Pujan is the culmination of those years of wait and consistent efforts.

For years together, many cynics among intellectuals and media claimed that the dream of a temple at Ayodhya would only remain BJP’s electioneering slogan. Whenever the BJP released the party manifesto before the General Elections, the immediate gleeful headline would be that the party had kept the Ayodhya-Temple issue at the back-burner. Back or front, the commitment to the people kept smouldering at the centre of the party’s agenda. Today, the Prime Minister’s Bhoomi Pujan is the culmination of those years of wait and consistent efforts.  Ram Rajya is finally a reality for India.

  • An excellent article comprehensively covering the history & origin of the Ram janma bhoomi yatra till date of bhoomi poojan . The sacrifices of kar sevaks , loosing BJP governments etc were recapitulated meticulously. The devilish role of the Congress was as expected as predominantly their policy Is Biased and Pro appeasement. Today millions of Hindus rejoice not only for the Bhoomi Pooja but the act is legal based on Supreme Court’s judgement. A long awaited dream Is fulfilled . The Author deserves appreciation and definitely suggest everyone to read & rejoice

    • Yes, the judgement, that too unanimous, by the highest court of the land in favour of the Rama temple deserves to be writ in letters of gold on a platinum tablet.

  • Excellent depiction of struggle of RSS and BJP ,sacrifices of karyakartas explained , in a lucid way, leading to Bhoomipujan on 05/08/2020.

  • A well taken step with the elections approaching and in view of the public sentiment Congress has no option but to go along .
It would be a tremendous success if they finish the construction before elections which due to constraints of time and to have a carrot to dangle it will not happen

  • Good presentation of the issues and facts that eventually led to Ram temple Bhoomi Pujan last week!

  • This Article has delivered triplets touching three major issues showing the pain borne by Mother India. Hat’s off to Mrs. Indira. G for making us sail through rough waters of sea and finally leaving at destination carefully. Thanks

  • Judiciary a primary wing of the state has finally broken the ice and made Lord Rama to stand tall in the hearts of the people and for those who are infested with leftist and pseudo secular ideologies to munch the grass .
Nation is proud of honoring ‘Maryada Rama’ to hold center stage and roll back those times where our ‘ancient culture’ that has surpassed several globes to ‘read, listen and practice’ our ‘traditions’ now holds the ‘standard’ aloft touching the skies.
‘Article is crisp and clean’ and it is ‘devoid of any slur’ made against those who denied ‘Rama a respectable place in the hearts of the larger masses of ancient nation ie INDIA.’

  • There is no doubt that a Ram Mandir was existing at the same place the Babri Masjid was built. As Ram has become the representative of Hindu Culture, and God, the building of new temple there has become a necessity. The way the dispute is resolved by the present Government also needs commendation and also it shows that ‘Where there is a Will, there is a Way’.

  • Wonderful article. A vivid prtrayal of chain of events culminating into the epic occasion of Bhoomi Poojan at Ayodhya. We can proudly say now Religion Regained.

    • Wonderful article. A vivid portrayal of chain of events culminating into the epic occasion of Bhoomi Poojan at Ayodhya. We can proudly say now Religion Regained.

  • Time has come to rename India as Hindustan. We need to struggle & fight to amend Constitution and declare our country as Hindu country.
Secularism in our country is dubious.
Pranamams to all those who worked for the cause of Rama janma bhoomi.
The article of Madam Indira is excellent & superb.

  • The author is highly appreciated for bringing out the facts about those really suffered on account of their sacrifice . Yes. 30 long years, somany subjugated to such humility on the allegation that they fought for the cause. But, those who were victimised lost their opportunities and prime life. Who can compensate that.
Once the court has given favourable judgement for Construction , now everyone claims as if they were only in favour.
Like this those long pending or burning issues of the country if further delayed would cause enormous damage to country interms of money, suffering of people. The sincere effort by the present govt to resolve these issues as highlighted by the author truly praiseworthy. Excellent read and facts.

  • Well said!It is true that the whole country had been waiting for this day as our own past governments created hurdles for their own political gains.Awaiting for his darshan after the temple construction.Jai Shri Ram!

  • Good article. Yes.. Ram Rajya finally a reality for India. Thanks to BJP. Kudos to Modi government.

  • The events that ultimately led to Bhumipujan ceremony for construction of RAM Temple at Ayodhya, the place of birth of Rama presented well in a brief way by Ms Indira G of Prajna Bharati. Wish the article carried a photo covering the long awaited Bhoomi poojan function too.

  • A nice article bringing the facts to light and the efforts of BJP in making this dream a reality finally.

  • This is the first step towards Ram Rajya. We need to move together to achieve Akanda Bharath Dream.

  • Well written article. I particularly liked the fact that it is presented with an objective look. I appreciate author for clear , incisive account of sequence of happenings .

  • Excellent Presentation. Centiment of Hindus in the form of Ram and his mandir foundation leaving all litigations to the past was butifully addressed. Hats off to Madam Indira .. the past, present and future writer.

  • Well narrated and good. My further view is Late Rajiv Gandhi’s permission for Silanyas and Late PV keeping silent during demolition helped all this. RSS worker Ravinsankar Prasad present Minister’s professional services also helped

  • Your article fully dwells on the events that have gone through in political circles of Indian democracy. It has clearly earmarked constant friction that that was raging in those times between the parties that stood for their ideologies. At judiciary level too constant friction held the sway whether it was ‘Rama’s abode or not’. Finally curtains were drawn and today people are rejoiced to see ‘Land of Ayodhya remains the kingdom of Lord Rama’

  • True a long awaited dream manifests in reality. A true victory to the Hindu beliefs around the world. The hiccups in reaching this goal chronologically are well depicted by the author.

  • A very great, significant achievement in the history of independent India.
A very well written article. History recapitulate.
The past and present great warriors of this movement are to be ever remembered &respected.

  • Very Interesting n worth reading article, Revealing The True colors of psuedosecular parties in our country,We must be Greateful to our Honorable PM Sri Narendra Modiji sir

  • Nice article.

So true. National journalists forgot that Ram is God and father of millions of Indians; some one we think of when we are in pain, when we are in love, when we are grateful – every moment. This Bhumi puja is the moment of pride for many many of us.

  • Well written article which is informative. I feel, the information given in this article might inspire the people who are interested in studying the history of our Country in depth.

  • The facts presented are apt and are appreciated.very beautiful and wonderful wonderful presentation by Indira G.Let us wish that the concept of Ram Rajya will materialise soon with the regime we have now.

    • While all of us eagerly look forward to Rama rajya, it will, in my view, take time… at least 2 or 3 more governments of BJP… for we have to grapple with many things… like consolidating the unity of at least 90% of the Hindus, embracing our brethren from the marginalized sections, weaning away the non-indigenous religious minority groups from the fanatical anti-Hindu forces. Continual interaction with the people on major issues is an imperative and prerequisite to paving the way for the much dreamt Rama rajya.

  • Very well written article with historical facts and a lucid style.
“ The idea that Shri Ram is more than a God, that he is the embodiment of Dharma, and the cultural fountainhead of the nation”, that’s the Hindu psyche which the author presented well.

  • It’s an Elaborative and Excellent information on RAM JANMA BHOOMI issue . Tthe sacrifices of thousands of KARA SEVAKS ,the stand and support of RSS and finally conducting BHOOMI PUJAN for CONSTRUCT ION OF SHRI RAM MANDIR @AYODHYA is well explained.

  • Nice article
The role of viswahindu parishad (Ashok Singhal) and the priests of Ayodhya should have been mentioned

    • Dear Indira Narayan ji, Not every article can contain every aspect. Other well-informed people at this forum should come up with their own pieces covering the uncovered aspects. Best regards.

      • Athreya Sarma garu
Namaste. Very glad to read your comments
After a long time you have joined the stream
        With best wishes

        • Thank you Indira ji. I would have loved to be active at this stimulating intellectual forum, but some where along the line, my literary flair has taken me on a parallel path, yet occasionally intersecting with the sociopolitical. Best regards.

  • A very well written article in a clear and lucid manner. Without showing any negativity or criticism of opposition parties, the write up rightly focused on the determined focus of RSS and BJP to building of Ram Janmabhoomi mandir and the success achieved by them. Appreciate the writer of covering the issue right from Rahul Gandhi’s Shilanyas entry.

  • I congratulate Smt.Indira Ji for penning this heart warming article which evokes patriotism. It brings back memories of immense struggle and sacrifices of nationalist Indians. I think the world must know that Lord Ram is not just a God for Hindu’s but a way of life. 🙏

  • A very well articulated elaborate article with lots of facts. I suggest people to read and understand, its important!

  • The article is a bird’s eye-view of the Rama Janma Bhoomi movement, capturing all its important moments and facets. Whatever the maliciously orchestrated anti-Hindu ‘secular/liberal/left’ acrobatics against the Hindu views, feelings and sentiments… the drama has finally unfolded into a happy & momentous landmark. It’s a lesson for everyone… for Hindus to be further united and consolidated on the foundation of their commonalities by ironing out smaller differences across them; for the followers of the non-indigenous Islam and Christianity to respect the feelings of their Hindu brethren and not deride them or their culture; for the ‘secular/liberal/left’ intellectuals & journalists to accept the essentiality of Hinduism for the identity, survival and security of India/Bharat without any longer quibbling about Hindutva vs Hinduism, for after all, ‘-tva’ is an Indian suffix and ‘-ism’ is an English suffix; and not to blow the incidents out of proportion where Hindus are involved; and cover up or water down the things where the non-indigenous minority religions are involved. Let them note that India is the only place for Hindus whereas Muslims and Christians have scores of countries for their generous patronage. In the present global village, if there is any minority that needs special privileges and protection, it’s only the Hindus – for the Christians are the most populated, followed by the Muslims.

  • The descendent of Ram & Lakhman have struggled and acquired our own Janmabhoomi maintaining secularism. – unity in diversity- is a grand feet
Well explained in the article by the author

  • Jai Shri Ram 🙏 This is really a great article. Kudos RSS, BJP, Kar Sevaks and numerous others for making this possible. It’s been a long and a patient wait for the masses. Pseudo secular parties with their brand of appeasement politics are certain to bite the dust. Victory for Dharma!

  • This is like a detailed chronobiology of events. As general public have a short of memory . It’s refreshing the memory of this most memorable event in a nutshell. Help to one and all and even strangers to know our pride our heritage of the great nation.

  • A good comprehensive briefing about the entire Rama Janmabhoomi movement till its positive end. No doubt that it is a good attempt.

  • A very well written article depicting all the facts. Shows the current state of affairs in politics. Good analysis!

  • Wonderful article, informative , rama rajya is finally reality for india, true but adding some points to this lines are ….Rama rajya is the dream come true kind of time for crores of people across the world not only those people who are from SANATHAN DHARMA but those from other religions also around the world….Why people want rama rajya , its not only for people can live fearlessly in the society, but they want to follow ramas qualities. Honestly asking how many people now living with those qualities or how many are trying to leave in the way of dharma. RAMO VIGRAHAVAAN DHARMAHA some people like RSS BJP VHP etc were in THAPSYA to made this day , lot of people sacrifice their lifes too. Now the time comes to live as per the ramas qualities ,

  • The efforts of RSS and BJP are undoubtedly commendable. Day before yesterday the 96 old pure teak Chariat at Antarvedi West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh was bunt , it is by probably persons of anti Hindu belief. At this crucial hour The BJP and R S S stood by the side of Peetodi Patiees . Thanks to RSS and BJP. It is time people to realise and definitely vote for up bringing our Sanatana Bharma one should always remember Dhamo Rakshati Rakshitaha ( If you protect Dharma. Then only it can protect you).
